Renowned chef to visit local trout farm for new PBS series

CANTON - Jacques Pepin, one of the world's best-known chefs will be in Western North Carolina Thursday. Pepin will drop by Sunburst Trout Farm in Canton to film a segment of his new PBS show "Chefs Afield."

After touring the farm and filming for the series, Pepin will cook two new dishes made with Sunburst trout and caviar in the home kitchen of Sunburst owner Sally Eason.

"We met at an Aspen food and wine festival alst year," Eason said, "He's one of the nicest and most down-to-earth people you'll ever meet.

Sunburst Trout Farm was featured in the Citizen-Times earlier this year for its new line of trout caviar that is becoming popular at haute cuisine restaurants in WNC and New York.

Pepin, who was personal chef to French Primier Charles DeGalle before moving to the United States, has written more than 19 cookbooks and hosted three series on PBS. He is dean of special programs at the French Culinary Institute in New York City and an adjunct faculty member at Boston University.
